If you’ve been watching the city, then you know the name — B Free is Detroit’s Menace in Paradise, the Rap Game Hokage. Brenton Freeman (full name) is the face of the city and the best in Detroit. From being the official ambassador of the Detroit Pistons and launching partnerships with Puma to mastering social media and connecting anime to hip hop, all within a year. It’s hard to find another young artist who’s pushing boundaries the same way, and even harder to define such a versatile sound that commands everyone to get up and rage. So know, if you’re at a B Free show, sitting still is not an option.
A musician since the time he could walk, B Free, with his brother and producer Prod. ByBert, fell in love with performing and creating music that makes people move. Over the last year, he shook the stage with Lil Wayne, Young Dolph, and Rich the Kid and released an EP titled “Lost in Paradise” along with numerous singles. He teamed up on a project with his Hip-Hop group Forever Golden, the “Gold — EP”, where the group earned the recognition of being called Detroit’s best group since D12. With his debut album “Arena Boy” releasing in 2020, the Menace shows no signs of slowing down. Instead, he’s pushing the envelope for what defines hip-hop with a cult following in Detroit, Japan and everywhere in between.
The 21 year old artist, mogul, and influencer from Detroit, Michigan, Curtis Roach, had been making music for 6 years, releasing a total of 5 solo projects. He exudes a style like an offspring of the native tongues, drawing inspiration from life, nature, and the humans around him. In 2018, Curtis performed at his first major music festival, MOPOP, rocking the stage with Billie Eilish, Rex Orange County, and Brock Hampton. The “Bored In the House” sensation completely controlled social media as the sound echoed around the entire world. Since then, the young star has been doing a lot of influencer work with global brands like Celine, Reese’s Puff, BET, FUSER, and many more. With a new project in the works, he plans to create a lasting positive impact on the environment and inspire the youth to make a change. When Curtis Roach is on, you will have a good f*****g time.
Nicklous McCorkle is professionally known as Whyandotte, a rapper and producer from Detroit, MI. Early on in life, Dot wanted to be a professional wrestler, and after realizing that was a stupid idea, he soon pursued other interests. In high school, he started to make beats after being inspired by J Dilla tapes and Lupe Fiasco albums. After learning more and more and becoming more adept at it, Dot decided to rap over his beats, mainly due to his classmates not matching his music with acceptable levels of skill like a true narcissist.
Recently his sound has evolved into more of an aggressive tone coupled with introspective lyrics and what some might say is a "proud reflection of his depression". Influenced by the Toronto hip hop scene and producers like Eestbound, Bijan Amir and Wondagurl, Dot plans on continuing his formation of deeply motivational/slightly de-motivational words over harsh beats riddled with 808 octaves. Check out the three groups he's in that are actually going places: Forever Golden, Off the Jump and Cemetery Drive.
Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, Santana Davinci, real name Santana Troutman, strives to prove his ability as a versatile Hip Hop artist and songwriter by releasing music that tells his story. Experiences he’s encountered and foreshadowed thoughts are matched with melodies to create a sound influenced by "what is felt in the moment."
Finding a natural love and connection to music through his father and brother, both musicians in his household, along with inspiration from Jay Z, LL Cool J, and Lil Wayne, Santana looked to take music into his own hands and, at the age of 20, formally started his path through music. What started as a hobby turned into a career after he joined the Detroit’s enigmatic group Forever Golden. From there, Santana Davinci has built his local presence rocking shows in Detroit and metro areas performing at colleges, festivals, opening for A$AP Ferg, and Forever Golden's own hosted concerts. After releasing singles and featuring on the acclaimed Gold EP, Santana Davinci looks to release his highly anticipated debut "NAP" soon. With hopes that it will gain critical acclaim, he’ll show you not to sleep on the Sleep God.
Bertram Freeman, better known as Prod.ByBert, is a Detroit-raised producer, drum genius, and natural zen master. The calm, collected prodigy doesn’t say much with words, but instead endlessly crafts art full of booming bass-lines and undulating melodies to tell his story. What started as a high school hobby teaching himself how to make beats on Garage Band for iPod, his production quickly evolved into a passion. When his brother B Free (Brenton Freeman) began to rap and make music himself, the two formed a talented tandem that’s teamed up with the Detroit Pistons, working on a song and commercial soundtrack for the hometown team. Prod.by Bert has crafted a slew of records for the top artists of the new Detroit, including B Free and Forever Golden. Amassing millions of streams over dozens of critically sound hits, the city’s star has only begun his takeover of the industry.
